The Center Buck

On a dark, snowy fall morning, Robert Schmitt of Mandan ND, climbed into his Ford truck as routinely as he has done many times before. On a road already packed with snow, he made his way toward work. Several minutes into his travels he spotted something on the side of the ditch. Suddenly a whitetail buck ran out on the road giving Robert no chance to avoid hitting the animal. As Robert hit the brakes, the deer slammed into the side of the truck spinning it into on-coming traffic. Robert waited for a vehicle to pass by, then drove to the impact site. There in the ditch was a huge buck like nothing he had ever seen before. The huge body looked like that of a small steer and the massive rack stuck out of the snow like a bush. On his cell phone Robert immediately contacted the authorities and the rest is history.

This huge buck has 48 inches of mass and main beans of  28 5/8 and 30 2/8. With an inside spread of 22 2/8 inches, this beauty nets 228 1/8 Non-Typical. The total gross typical score of this buck is 213 4/8 inches. If not for several ‘beauty points’ around each base, this buck would be top five in the world for typicals.

The question that has been asked is, if anyone has ever seen this buck before. Apparently a local farmer had seen him several times and one bowhunter who knew of this monster, kept it highly secret. (A good thing)

Congratulations to Robert and his magnificent buck.
